Hello everyone, and welcome to the first episode of work plus life equals balance. I’m your host, Felicia Moore. I want to thank you all so much for tuning in and listening. In this first episode, I’m going to tell you not only about the podcast and what you can expect, but also a little bit about myself. That way, I’m not a complete stranger to you. So let’s get started. You may be wondering, why should I listen to this podcast? Well, my question back to you is why not? You came here looking for something you probably saw the title. So I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you’re looking for some work life balance? Well, that’s exactly what I’m going to help you to find. My goal is to help you organize your life, making sure that you’re taking care of yourself, because you can’t take care of others without taking care of yourself first, right? And how am I going to do this? By sharing my personal thoughts and experiences along with getting interviews and information from people in different professions and walks of life. Each show will focus on giving you tips and tricks to balancing your work and life from setting boundaries to fighting burnout, from self care to vacation time, from boosting your confidence to learning about your self worth. That’s my intent with this podcast.
But who am I to say that I can do all of this? I’m just that friendly voice in your ear. But I want to be more than that. So let me take a minute to tell you a little bit more about myself. Like I mentioned previously, my name is Felicia Moore, and I’m a licensed professional counselor. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, specifically the Lehigh Valley area. I’ve been working in counseling for the past nine years. And for the past four, I’ve had my own private practice. In my practice, I work with those ages 12 and older, most of whom are part of the LGBTQ plus community. I love my work and I love being able to help people. Before I started my counseling career, I received my master’s degree in couples, marital and family therapy from Kutztown University. This is where I met my wonderful advisor, Dr. Cohen, who is actually the person who pushed me to start doing public speaking in the first place. She had me going to conferences and presenting both with her and on my own. One day, she just decided, hey, it’s time for you to fly. After graduation. I thought that was the end of my public speaking days, but not so much. She started having me come to speak with her internship class, specifically in regards to starting a private practice. And despite how much I say that I don’t enjoy public speaking, and actuality, I really do. If it wasn’t for Dr. Cohen’s encouragement, I may not be doing this podcast today. So she definitely deserves a shout out for pushing me to engage in public speaking. Dr. Cohen, if you’re listening, thank you. And no, I still won’t tell you what my middle name is. That’s just a little joke between us. Another person I have to thank for encouraging me to continue with my public speaking and kind of pushing me, literally, out the door to make sure that I get to these public speaking engagements was my mom. She’s always been there for me, my number one cheerleader. Again, without her, I don’t know if I would be doing this podcast. So mom, who I know is listening. Thank you. Not only did my mom encouraged me to do this podcast and continue with public speaking, she also encouraged me to open my private practice FJ Moore Counseling, which officially opened in summer of 2017. My office building is occupied by several different other businesses and people. And this is where I had the pleasure of meeting Cristy, Vicky, and Wanda, the hostesses of the Lehigh Valley Women’s Empowerment Group. The three of them do an amazing job. And I have to say that they’ve definitely encouraged and empowered me, it was after one of their monthly meetings that I decided I needed to order myself a microphone and get myself set up so that I could start Work Plus Life Equals Balance. If you’re listening, ladies, thank you. Now there are really some other people that I need to thank, like my cousin who came up with the idea. And then all my friends that I frankly, bothered with all the details of what this podcast would be about, from the music to the description, everything. So thank you, everybody who has helped me develop this podcast, I really, truly appreciate it. But now it’s time for me to bring it back to myself and the podcast.
So a few last tidbits about myself. I love music. I love movies. I love Netflix and Disney. I love my little boy more than anything in the entire world. And I’m sure you’ll hear about him as time goes on. Because he’s truly a big part of the reason I need to maintain a balance between work and life. When I say I’m pretty well versed in this. I’m not kidding. I have a lot going on in my life, as I’m sure you do too. And I want to help you to maintain that balance with a calm demeanor. People often come to me and ask how do you maintain your life so flawlessly. Well, I can tell you it’s not as flawless as it seems, but I’ve gotten pretty good at it. So let me and my guests help you to maintain work life balance.
